Since its inception in 2004, the Quatuor Voce has been recognized internationally as one of the most fascinating string quartets among the young generation, performing worldwide alone or alongside outstanding artists such as Yuri Bashmet, Gary Hoffman, Nobuko Imai, Bertrand Chamayou, David Kadouch, Juliane Banse, to name but a few.

In only a few years the quartet received the highest prizes from renowned international competitions, including Geneva, Cremona, Vienna, Bordeaux, Graz, London and Reggio Emilia, and since then has been committed to championing the great repertoire for string quartet. The quartet recently toured the most prestigious halls in Europe thanks to the ECHO organization, which named the quartet as ‘Rising Stars’ in 2013: Concertgebouw (Amsterdam), Konzerthaus (Vienna), Philharmonie de Luxembourg, Barbican (London), Elbphilharmonie (Hamburg), Philharmonie de Cologne, MUPA (Budapest), Gulbenkian (Lisbon), Casa da Musica (Porto), BOZAR (Brussels), Megaron (Athens), Town Hall (Birmingham), Cité de la musique (Paris), Konserthuset (Stockholm), Konzerthaus (Dortmund), Palau de la Musica (Barcelona) and Festspielhaus (Baden Baden).

Open to diverse art forms, and in particular contemporary music, the Voce regularly work closely on new commissions from living composers, including Bruno Mantovani, Gianvicenzo Cresta, Graziane Finzi, Alexandros Markeas, François Meïmoun, Zad Moultaka… Their curiosity has lead them to experiment with different forms of concert performance: they frequently give their voice to silent movies from W. F. Murnau to Buster Keaton and have shared their universe with such diverse personalities as the musicologist Bernard Fournier, the singer and guitarist -M-, the choreographer Thomas Lebrun, the composer and trumpet player Ibrahim Maalouf and the Canadian neo-folk singer Kyrie Kristmanson, with whom they released the album ‘Modern Ruin’ in 2015.

Their recordings of Schubert and Beethoven string quartets and the complete Mozart’s Flute Quartets (with French flautist Juliette Hurel) were met with high critical acclaim by the international press (The Strad, Télérama, Neue Zürcher Zeitung, Diapason, Strings and Bow and Klassieke Zaken) as was their CD of Brahms and Mozart’s string quintets with violist Lise Berthaud in 2015. Their most recent recording of quartets by Bartok, Janacek and Schulhoff entitled ‘Intimate Letters’ was released in February and continues their collaboration with Alpha Classics.

Highlights of 2015/2016 included invitations to the Theatre of La Fenice in Venice, the Theatro Colón in Bogotá, and the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam. The start of the 2016/2017 season saw the Quartet return to Colombia, this time in Cartagena, plus concerts in Italy, France, Germany and the UK with a return to London’s Wigmore Hall in their Coffee Concert Series. 

2017/2018 sees the Quartet tour in France, Germany, Italy and the UK, with a two-week Music Network Tour of Ireland. They have been invited to perform at the Philharmonie de Paris in the Biennale du Quatuor à Cordes in January 2018. A new venture began in 2017 with the Quartet launching their very own season of concerts at the Cabaret Sauvage, a decidedly non-classical music venue in the heart of Paris’s Parc de la Villette. Drawing on the links they have created with dance, cinema, video, popular and traditional music over the years, the musicians of the Quartet invite the audience to take part in an uniqueevening centered around the string quartet repertoire, but not in the way one might imagine… The key element is their conviction that the repertoire from which they draw their daily inspiration can be championed in any context, and that the experience of going to a concert must be about sharing a passion for live music and culture as a whole, a moment where people from all walks of life, all ages and all musical paths can come together to listen, watch, discuss and experience something new in a relaxed and open environment.

The Quatuor Voce has benefited from the support of numerous organisations, most notably ProQuartet, Monceau Assurances, the Théâtre de la Cité Internationale, the Fondation Banque Populaire, the Academie Musicale de Villecroze, the Instituto Albeniz in Madrid, the Fondation Charles Oulmont, the Philharmonie de Paris, and is currently in residence in Paris’ Ecole Normale Supérieure.
